WÖRTHERSEE, IN KLAGENFURT (There is place for everyone)

The Wörthersee in the city of Klagenfurt, south of Vienna, has been expanded to accommodate 32,000 spectators in all three matches at this venue during Euro 2008 in June.

The field, which usually play the SK Austria Kärnten, Second Division, costing 70 million euros and is considered the most attractive in terms of architectural, primarily by designing its shiny metal roof, which has received praise for its spectacular design.

We will have to invest a further seven million euros in return the stadium to accommodate suitable for the public from Klagenfurt, capital of the southern State of Carinthia, and that figure is between 12,000 and 16,000 people, after the European tournament.

Carlos Fernandez de Retana, who heads the organizing committee of the European Championship in Klagenfurt, told Efe that the local club does not need nor attracts so many viewers as to maintain the capacity required by Uefa so in January 2009 the field again have a capacity of just under half.

Fernandez stressed that the main challenge facing this stage matches are sensitive from the viewpoint of security, as the first between Germany and Poland on June 8, whose fans have a reputation for aguerridos, especially the Poles. But neither the Croatia-Germany, four days later, promises to be calmer.

The city of Klagenfurt has hired several hundred security guards, besides calling for police reinforcements from other regions Austrian and German police have and Polish nationals to help maintain order.
